Since 2009 Giacomo Zanus is Deputy Chief  (First Attending) of the Center for Liver Transplantation (adult and pediatric) with a volume of about 70 transplants / year with more than 15% of partial livers. The center also performed 1,000 liver resection including approaches resectional or ablative laparoscopic.

He performed as the first operator than 450 liver transplants including 2 cases of pediatric transplant and more than 450 liver resection by laparotomy and laparoscopic cirrhotic liver and liver healthy for primary and secondary malignant disease and benign solid and cystic.

Particular Research interests and career highlights

Giacomo Zanus works at the Research Group in liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery Hepato-biliary Surgery since February 1999 in the following areas of scientific interest:

Hepatocellular carcinoma (clinical prognostic factors and molecular-biological, angiogenesis);

Ischemia-reperfusion (total hepatic vascular exclusion in pork and in small animals, normo- hypothermia, machine perfusion);

Liver regeneration (molecular biology, signal translation, GH-IGF axis);

Technologies Virtual reality hepatic (liver reconstruction and pre-operative planning, virtual reality laparoscopic liver).

Treatment of liver metastases (chemohyperthermia, transplantation);

Immunosuppressive therapy (new immunosuppressants, minimization, tolerance)
Tissue engineering (stem, scaffolds);

He has participated in clinical trials of phase 2 and 4.
